cleaning frenzy downstairs the ruckus
of laundry and drowning perfume
birds dart tree to tree unable to settle
on this branch or that much less thought
but the pair of ducks on the neighbor’s roof-
peak: they stand, step closer together,
pause, step again, coyly dip their heads—
my half-cup of coffee still warm
I love this, Jennifer–even though it reminds me that I need to do some cleaning. . .
I like the line break, roof-peak. . .
the birds, the housecleaning, the moment of returning to the coffee. . .

Thank you, Merril. I had in mind the NaPoWriMo prompt about simultaneous things…from a few days ago, I think.

Could be me. Except for the laundry. Nature makes its own ruckus. I liked the peace of this (maybe the coffee!).

Coffee first and always 🙂 I was sitting outside yesterday afternoon, listening to the birds, and thinking how the “peace” of nature can sometimes be quite noisy!

Once you start to listen, you realise how much!

I just love this drawing! And then the poem, which plays off the void in the drawing so well. You are having fun! Envious.

Thank you but don’t tell me you’re not having fun?!

Those ducks sound riveting… I feel the haven of coffee and nature with clanging in the background.
