Gold coins strewn here, there
piles gleaming—birch and redbud
fling them, showing off

Crabapple shakes out
brown tresses; these red jewels
will do, firm-fastened
*
Spruce in winter green
stands cool by the fence, unswayed
by north-wind rumors
Autumn finery 🙂

I love the personification here – or perhaps it is the true depiction of tree spirits’ characters 🙂 With Luca at his first dance, this is all very topical.

Oh, and my youngest is going to a dance this Saturday. Must have been burbling around in the back of my mind. 🙂

Beautiful weight to these lines, especially this: “unswayed

Very nice. I love the different ways of approaching the subject without forcing them to connect. It opens up that disconnected feeling of the season.
