How do I shout
entwined as I am
about the doorframe
bounded by the step? A thorn
or two to snag passersby
(when one strident voice
is no more heeded than another
or silence) heeded not at all.
I have been rooted
in the earth fluid only
with the wind’s desire
and though I sought voice
after voice, bearing flower fruit
year on year I am nothing
no arms to move you but
my whispered song
Ah, but you noticed…(K)

Sometimes! 🙂 And sometimes it takes more than a thorn or two…

There is such a magical, fairy tale feel to this!
I like this: “I have been rooted
in the earth fluid only
with the wind’s desire”
And “my whispered song.”

Thank you, Merril. I’m glad you got that feeling…it was definitely going that direction for me.

Like a fairy tale princess, imprisoned. Just one idea I had from this. I could list more. What a vivid picture.

Yes–and thank you. This character has more to say, I think.

I’m reminded of a sad song in a fairy tale land sung by a trapped princess. So beautiful and haunting.

I felt the resignation at the end, and the idea of plants trying to capture people’s attentions by clawing at them is vivid and true.

Yes! Especially roses, I find. 🙂

What was the story, that ended with the two lovers as trees entwined about each other but forming a doorway? That’s what this evoked for me, a tension of mythos.

I am looking that up…getting a spark from the doorway part, thank you!

So many ways to get our attention … very nice. I especially like ‘fluid only/with the wind’s desire’. 🙂
