Me too. It captures how I think of the turkey vultures that recently returned to our area. One has perched on an old grain elevator every day, hunched there since it has been back.
And I love the final line! I like the idea of the sun doing something we expect from a flower – and the sun does bud and then bloom, whether you think about it rising or shifting into spring and then summer. I also like the idea that no matter what happens in the world, the sun continues to rise.
I like the word play of “post pre-dawn.” I’m embarrassed that it took me so long to get out of the mental gymnastics of “Wouldn’t post pre-dawn be daytime?”
“On post pre-dawn” is my favorite! I love the feeling of resiliency in this – humans might screw things up, but damn if nature isn’t still going to be beautiful in the morning.
Beautiful. I love “feathered sentinels”

Thank you! Inspired by a nice walk around the pond and this one insistent bird in my window-tree.

Feathered sentinels was my favorite line too! It perfectly encapsulates bird behavior.
