Pruning. Like that post-
Christmas relief of clearing
out decayed decorations
all the fading fluff
and glittery lights
that cheered us through
winter’s dark—
Now branches are blunt-
cut, monochrome sculpture
stark, open to the sky.
This year, I intend
to watch the leaves
unfurl, to know the gift
when it’s given
Yes. We are on day 75 of winter and only 17 more to go until spring (I know this because of the small landscape giveaway, not because I really want to see some spring! OK, maybe so.
There is always something sad about holiday decorations out of season. I think they look embarrassed.
This poem captures just how I feel. Thank you.

Thank you for seeing something in it! We’ve been fortunate to have good weather over the past two weekends…feels so nice to get out there and clearing away.

How refreshing it is to think about spring, to watch the different colors unfold when all is monochrome… love this verse, especially the second stanza and that closing. ***

Thank you. This one had been sitting in draft in my notebook most of the week–I wasn’t sure if I could make anything of it.

Beautiful. I hate gardening, but I love the feeling of clearing things out (not that I do it often)–and spring itself is a rebirth, a gift,

You hate gardening!?! I don’t think we can be friends! 😉 But seriously, thank you for seeing something here.

Sorry–I do not enjoy it at all. But does it help that I love gardens, and I will appreciate all the work you do in yours? 🙂

I love this time of year, when every day’s stroll in the garden reveals more new green things. 🙂

I hope you do notice the gift of that first pinpoint of green. The new leaves on the roses seem to have been unfurling since before Christmas.

I wait and wait and wait…and then spring always takes me by surprise. 🙂

It’s sneaky like that. Winter tends to be the same.
