Not biddable, dog-whistled
or sheep-herded;
not concerned with bleating
tourists restless
under shrouded promise
of Ben Bulben;
not wished up
by careless birdsong
nor suddenly gracious
to huddled daffodils
that wait patient
by the roadside,
a wink of gold
in green and gray,
green and gray
and green
Today’s prompt for NaPoWriMo is a “negation” poem.
I really like the way you constructed this and then brought it home so strong. Exceptionally nice job.

Thanks, Thom! Can’t help but be inspired over here, even on a rainy day. š

Ahhh. The first daffodil opened in my garden today. The warm up to those last four lines works wonderfully. And the last lines – just feel lost in revery. Lovely.

Thank you, glad you liked it! I’ve been traveling–behind on everything–but I couldn’t resist this first NaPoWriMo prompt. š

Enjoyable piece Jennifer – this Irish Sun has definitely warmed me with its gentle refrains. I almost feel as if the cheeky devil has just winked at me too š

Thanks so much. We did see a few glimpses of it while we were there last week–but the rain was lovely in its own way. š

At least it doesn’t usually last long. It always comes back though…
