we’ve been unpacking
each other by layers
glitter-gilt wrap
tissue paper
crumpled newsprint
piled useless-useful things
broken and mended
with tender fingers
tearing words
we keep going on mere glimpses
of that priceless gem at box bottom:
bountiful soul of this marriage
This is a great take, Jen. love the lines:
“broken and mended
with tender fingers
tearing words”

Thank you. I went rounds with this one, almost didn’t post.

This was so lovely, the unwrapping of each other takes a good long time, but it’s worth the wait.

I agree — love the layers in this and how well the metaphor works, and the uncertainty and difficulty of it all.
